JULYSA SOSA
multidisciplinary artist
Julysa Sosa (She/They) is a detribalized Xicanx whose art focuses on identity, healing, and reconnection as an Indigenous person separated from their ancestral lands. Through various mediums, Julysa examines her journey of disconnection and reconnection, delving into the complexities of identity shaped by colonialism, 'Mexican' nationalism, and as a first-generation Tejanx. While she embraces her detribalized experience and does not claim official affiliation with any tribal community, she is a proud descendant of the Nahua people and is actively engaged in remembering and relearning her ancestral language.
Julysa holds a BA in Journalism & Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is currently based in Myaamionki (formerly Indianapolis) with her life partner
