About the Artist:
Julysa Sosa is a multidisciplinary Xicanx artist from South Texas, working across installation, photography, and mixed media. Their practice traces memory, explores healing, and reimagines ancestral ties that persist beyond borders and time.
Sosa debuts their first large-scale installation:
“Altar de la Recámara: Mujer, Ollin, Memoria” (The Altar of the Bedroom: Woman, Movement, Memory), 2025, Mixed media installation.
Artist Statement (excerpt):
“This work begins with the familiar form of the vanity table… reimagined as an ancient presence that resists capitalism’s theft of time. The vanity becomes an altar of reciprocity—where adornment, resistance, and visibility converge.”

Madre_Land Artist Talk at Centro de Artes
Important Update: Due to the government shutdown and FAA cuts, my travel plans were affected. When offered the choice to change or cancel, I chose to cancel because of the uncertainty around delays and cancellations. As a result, I will not be able to attend the artist talk. I sincerely apologize and hope you can still attend, as it promises to be a remarkable discussion.
