South of San Antonio

S.O.S.A. is what her father called the family. A shorthand for South of San Antonio, a point of origin and a source of pride. The story behind it runs along the Gulf coast, from the homelands of Veracruz and Tampico, Mexico, through the migration of a grandfather who worked the water as a shrimp fisherman, moving north until he settled in Brownsville, where Julysa was born.

A lifetime of moving followed, a military family that eventually put down roots and called San Antonio home. Wherever they landed, S.O.S.A. was the north star. The lore, the anchor, the way back. Now the practice has moved to Myaamionki, but the name has not changed. It still points south.
